Obviously, I don't want to print my letters on envelopes, so this appeared to be a problem. The first thing I noticed about the Envelope style is that it changed every page in my document to an envelope.

I didn't realize at first that you were referring to it. I've seen and used the F11 "Stylist" before. Somehow that's getting changed, and that's what's screwing up my printing of the envelopes. It lets you choose one of 6 different ways for your envelope to print. Inside both the Insert -> Envelope screen and the Envelope Style screen is an orientation selection. Experience is that Styl#es are the best way to work in Writer.Īll right. They are well worth the effort.Īs a quick analysis of your envelope problem, I think you are using direct formatting, which is iffy at the best of times. I'd suggest you had a look at the use of styles and come back either to this thread or to a new one with queries. One can format an entire book in a small number of styles (often which one can accept from the built in styles) and with one or two minor changes reformat it in seconds. These Styles are the main power of OpenOffice, and where it is much better than Word they do take some getting used to. Right clicking on a style lets you Creat a New Style based on that, or Modify, or sometimes (if not a predefined style) Delete. The drop down at the bottom allows one to display various selections of styles - stick to All for a start. The little icons on top of the Styles and Formatting window (do I remember that someone callled it the Stylist?) allow you to access as follows:įrom left: Paragraph styles, Character Styles, Frame Styles, Page Styles and List Styles. Now you gain access to an entire set of options that allow you build up an envelope style, customised exactly for your system. It should change and show you Page Styles, one of which is Envelope. Then click the fourth little icon from the left on the top of the Styles and Formatting box. In it, click the drop down list on the bottom and select All Styles. The Styles and Formstting window will open. Select Format / Styles and Formatting (or shortcut just press F11). Any help in curing this behavior will be greatly appreciated. Instead of simply editing the letters as I did previously, I must now create each new letter from scratch.

This is highly annoying since I use a standard template for certain types of letters. I can think of no changes I have made to the computer that could cause this type of behavior. This behavior has started only within the last month. When I first installed my computer, this did not occur. If I save the document, reopen it, and edit the envelope, the envelope prints incorrectly.Įssentially, any and all printings of envelopes beyond the initial creation of said envelopes results in a piece of trash. If I save the document and reopen it, the envelope prints incorrectly. I have changed absolutely nothing since the first printing I have only printed again. If I print the document a second time, the data on the envelope appears in the opposite orientation.

When I create a new document and insert an envelope, the envelope prints correctly.
